The Veterans Affairs Department received more than 700 complaints between October 2021 and January 2022 about identity verification service ID.me, according to a public records request and investigation by Insider. The complaints from veterans, family members and caregivers said ID.me prevented veterans from receiving benefits and other assistance after they struggled to use the facial recognition software or lacked access to the technology needed to use ID.me.
